The Tune Recreation Committee (TRC) announce their much-anticipated venue circuit tour in February 2017. A formidable quintet comprising some of Cape Town’s finest young musicians. The band features Clement Benny on drums, Nicholas Williams on bass, Keenan Chas Ahrends on guitar, Mandla Mlangeni on trumpet and special guest Mark Fransman on alto saxophone, flute and accordion.
The unit is also set to perform in this year’s 18th annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival. The Cape Town-based TRC takes original tunes and reinvents them with nods to their various influences, they embrace the vibrant underground music scene of drum and bass to Balkanology. Fusing imported sounds and exporting their own flavour by going into a Ghoema-tinged feel or just improvising around a melody. The T.R.C is the playground for the interrogation, assimilation and extended extemporisation from the canon of South African jazz heritage.
Tune Recreation Committee is supported by Concerts SA is a joint South African/Norwegian live music development project housed within the SAMRO Foundation. Working with musicians, promoters, venue owners and audiences, and providing support to the sector through research and skills development for music professionals, the project aims to build a vibrant and viable live music circuit in southern Africa.
It also aims to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools.
